A Year Imbued with Curiosity and Surprise

Beginning a Year full of Charming Treasures that Evoke the Grace & Elegance of Mystical Dreams

My little sanctuary tables and shelves are cluttered with books, papers, porcelains and enamels, and there even sits a box with a porcelain rabbit’s head handle; objects that are awaiting to be transformed.

Marking the moment, my kit-kit clock ticks away, reminding me that the new year has begun, beckoning me to put in to place my ideas, shapes, colors, and patterns for the 2011 ADoriables Collection.

Little treasures of inspiration and suggestions from last year's travel adventures call to me and soon I am lost in thought and remembrance; oh what fun it was to metal detect in Scotland with my friends from Pilrig House, finding special titbits to put in my shadow boxes. The antique shop in Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, where four flights of rickety stairs led to visions of the Victorian era quietly put away for another time; old dolls posing on steps, mirrors and paintings which shouted creativity in every corner. And the china shop with stacks of teacups, pots and plates where mice would have a hard time sneaking by without the whole stack tumbling down. What a reverie of sweet disorder - timeless and inviting. Going to Scotland to collect for my art is an extension of myself. At times I feel like I have discovered a secret enchanted place full of beautiful possibilities just waiting to be shared with you all.

Out of the corner of my eye is my kitty Toffee, who wants to help the process along; spilling paints to achieve that perfect green for my Rococo-inspired chest. The way the lights play in the room makes the colors surrounding me evoke a grandeur of history and royalty, and just for a moment I imagine an old apothecary jar with a Rosetti print. The tinkling of just-fired porcelain breaks me from dreams of animated composition, I pick up a brush...

and begin.
